The Real Social Network is a documentary directed by Isis Thompson, Ludo Fales and Srdjan Keca, three recent graduates of the National Film & Television School who have formed a collective of filmmakers to tell important stories in new ways.

In partnership with Amnesty International, the Movies that Matter Festival is the Netherlands’ main platform for engaged cinema, with dozens of documentaries and movies of inspired film makers being screened every year.   Their focus is films that stir the debate about human rights, human dignity and situations where these are at stake.

The festival screens documentary films in both Wellington and Auckland, and is one of Australasia’s premiere international documentary film festivals held annually.  The Festival showcases the very best in documentary films from New Zealand and around the world. It also includes an Awards Gala, Q&A Sessions with filmmakers, various social functions and special events.

Terry Gilliam, France’s Patrice Leconte and Spain’s Fernando Trueba will showcase animated features alongside us at Cartoon Movie, which is Europe’s premier animation co-production forum.

Our adaptation of Upton Sinclair’s seminal novel about the immigrant experience in the quest for the American dream follows Paul Thomas Anderson’s success in adapting the author’s work for the live action feature There Will Be Blood.

The film will be directed by Hungarian filmmaker Tibor Banoczki whose work with Quark has already garnered awards including the Annecy Crystal as well as nominations for the British Animation Awards and the Cartoon D’Or.

Part of the “We’re the Kids from Suburbia” Programme at the 2010 festival, Dylan Cave of Sight & Sound Magazine called it “challenging” and “expertly directed”.
